Élan’s Collection at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013 Day 1
0
The final show of Act 1 at PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2013 Day 1 was presented by acclaimed design house Élan who showcased their collection named after Keats’ poem, ‘Ode to a Nightingale’. Inspired by the poem in both the literal and figurative sense, the collection was an artistic expression of transcending the human condition of despair and monotony and feeling at one with the nightingale in its blissful state of freedom and happiness. For Ode to a Nightingale designer Khadijah Shah re-created a series of Chinoiserie-style prints, featuring different natural elements such as birds, flowers, fish, trees and the quintessential full moon with the songbird featuring as a major recurring theme in many of the prints. The color palette was subtle and dusky – featuring sunset hues, watery blues, pale leafy greens and the pitch dark black of the night to bring them all together. For this collection, Khadijah also used atypical studs, flattened alloy disks and bulbous metal forms to create dramatic accents for cuffs, shoulder patches and belts along with cut-work, appliquéd net and thread filigrees and intricate silk thread embroidery for the more elaborate pieces. Fashion Editors Meher Tareen and Samina Khan walked the ramp as Elan’s showstopper. Check out Elan’s Collection for PSFW 2013 below.

Following TONI & GUY’s trend show was a solo bridal showcase by Élan with her collection titled ‘Gold Dust’ at PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 Day 3. With an emphasis on fluid silhouettes, shirts and jackets glided along the form allowing movement and agility. Where the bodice or torso was structured, the look was softened with flow and volume at the hemline. The three-piece bridal ensembles were regal and richly embellished and included long jackets and tops with trailing backs paired with elaborately embroidered izaars and farshi sharara’s along with Grecian-like draped ensembles, Kimono styled jackets with sleek ankle grazers and a traditional kali angarakha with a kali luckhnowi gharara. For Gold Dust, designer Khadijah Shah created custom motifs with the interplay of thread embroidery along with metal and crystal work delving into the extensive library of Sub-Continental, Central Asian and Oriental patterns to create a unique blend of embellishment. The pieces were pre-dominantly crafted in net and silk, embroidered with thread and gold spun floral motifs, gemmed butterflies and birds, crusted jewels and sparkling sprays of sequins, crystal and pearls.
