Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s latest Test captain, has hit back at criticism over his surprising elevation, arguing that he hasn’t even had the opportunity yet to show his capabilities as a leader. Misbah has at least two Tests as captain against South Africa in the UAE next month.
“I do not agree with what they [former cricketers] are saying, doubting my abilities as a captain, and saying I am not capable of delivering,” Misbah told reporters in Lahore. “I know the task assigned (more…)
Pakistan recalled Misbah-ul-Haq to the Test side and installed him as captain primarily because Younis Khan was not cleared for selection by the PCB, the chief selector Mohsin Khan has said. “We needed a senior player to strengthen our batting line-up,” Mohsin told the News. “Our first choice was Younis Khan but (more…)
At a time when our cricketers have been branded as cheats and sell-outs, it is heartening to know that at least our umpires are being held in high esteem. “It would have been dealt with, and it would have set a precedent for the future. But I don’t think it has done that”.
Harbhajan had an exchange with Symonds on day three of the Test, during which he allegedly called (more…)
Mohsin Khan, Pakistan’s chief selector, is concerned about finding replacements for Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, the trio suspended by the ICC in the spot-fixing scandal, for a tough, upcoming series against South Africa.
The three players were served notices on September 2 after the ICC felt they had “a case to answer”, and were initially given two weeks to respond, though this has been extended on the players’ request. Of the three, only (more…)
Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, has left for the UK on a visit that comes amid growing tension between the two national cricket boards, and with the ICC watching developments closely. ESPNcricinfo understands that the possibility of suspending Butt from his role as an ICC director – for his extraordinary outburst against the ECB and the ICC – has “crossed the minds” of officials, but such an extreme step will be averted if the boards of England and Pakistan achieve some sort of rapprochement.
